Antique kimono fabric gamaguchi bags, coin purses, card cases etc by Yoshitsune Yanagida 栁田義経

You can recently purchase cheap imported kimonos in Japan, but traditionally woven made in Japan kimono can be very expensive. We nowadays rarely wear kimono on everyday bases and those people who wear kimono daily have been very limited.

Our ancestors taught us not to waste any kimono when it is no longer used by remaking it to something else rather than throwing away as a rubbish, but not many people sadly practice that teaching anymore and old kimono can be kept in a closet for a long time awaiting for being thrown away eventurely.

Mr. Yoshitsune Yanagida has been giving new life to those neglected kimonos (he also uses those kimono fabrics which had never been worn and left as a roll of kimono fabric strip).

The gamaguchi bag is a good size for carrying a smart phone and also wallet and coin purse. You can even put an eco bag in it, so when you buy things unexpectedly you can carry them back home then.

The price is 3,500yen without tax.

As for the coin purses, there are two types; with the strap and without.

The one without the strap is 1,500yen and you can use it as an ordinary coin purse. As for the one with the strap, you can hang it from your bag and you can keep a lipsticks, eco bag, coins etc and the price is 2,000yen.

The card case is made of kimono obi, which is like a belt for wearing kimono and it is usually made with durable stronger materials. You can keep 20 cards in it. the price is 1,500yen.

By the way I was told that he also makes the metal button used for the case by reshaping an old coin with a hammer.

Although Mr. Yanagida made this as a medicine book case (in Japan when you purchase a prescribed medicine, the pharmacy gives you the medicine book so you can keep track of medication you have been taking in the past), you can use them as a passport case as well. The price is 2,000yen.

His wife, Miya, is an illustrator and she has also been contributing on his works, drawing her illustrations on simple blank kimono fabrics. The prices are the same as those of the kimono version.
