Turquoise blue bowls and plates by Yoh-ichi Yajima

Summer in Tokyo can be very hot due to the high humidity as well as the heat and we have invented various ways of cooling down the heat by not only the physical attempt to cool ourselves down but also by the use of visual image and auditory sound for feeling cooler at least.

For example, wind bell called Fuh-rin makes high pitched clear sound as it is blown by the air and that sound somewhat auditory cools you down, so we often hang that by the entrance or window in summer.

The color also plays important role to feel visually cooler and blue is often the color used in summer.

Turquoise blue is the color I personally like to use in summer because it is visually refreshing. Although some people claim that the blue color reduces your appetite when it is used for tableware, but it actually goes well with green and red vegetables, so when you serve for example salad, the blue tableware works pretty well. So I believe it entirely depends on how they are used rather than the color itself.

The outer surface is painted like an oil paint with the rough surface and that is the way he likes lately.

The contrast of the blue and white with the black line in between is beautiful.
