Stainless steel bamboo leaf shaped cutlery rest and paper knife from Tsubame city

Tsubame-Sanjyo area of Niigata prefecture has been well known for the manufacturing of high quality metal working products such as cutlery and knives.

It seems that the history of metal working dates back to Muromachi period (1336 – 1573) in that area and they started making iron nails in Edo period. Tsubame city, then, branched out into Western style metal cutlery manufacturing and the craftsmen in Sanjyo city area pursued their main profession to professional tool manufacturing such as knives and sickles.

There are several famous cutlery manufactures in Tsubame city and we also sell them at our store.

These are TI-1 serieas designed by Mr. Takenobu Igarashi (五十嵐威暢).

They recently started making other products other than the cutlery and many of their products are created with various designers.

My personal favorite items amongst these newly developed products are the metal bamboo leaf shaped cutlery rests.

They are very simple bamboo shaped cutlery rests, which come in silver and gold colors (the prices vary depending on the colors).

The beauty of these cutlery rests is that they can be stacked very neatly like on the photo because they are identically pressed. 500yen+tax for the silver and 850yen for the gold color.
