Hakone in Kanagawa prefecture has been known for various wooden products mainly because it is surrounded by woods and they have easy access to various types of trees.
Yosegi craft is one of them, but they are also famous for wooden karakuri baco. Karakuri means secret or trick in English and it is a box, which you need to do something like sliding the surface wooden lid etc to open the box.
For example, this box can be opened with three movements.
The logo on the box says からくり (Karakuri), which means trick.
This can also be opened wth 3 movements, but this is much harder than that of earlier 3 movements one.
First two movements are relatively easy, but the last third movement is hard to identify.
This is also three movements to open, but it moves in totally different way from others.
This look like the first one, but it can be opened with only one action, but it opens in completely different way, so many people find it is harder to open compared with others.
Theare also other boxes of this size and you can check them on our online store, but these four boxes are the popular ones.
This is Karakuri cube. It looks just like a wooden cube, but if you move four areas, you can open it. There are also three other cubes with different colors, but this black one is the hardest and the most popular one amongst these four cubes.
This box is slightly larger than the previous one and you need o move 6 times to open this box.
This type comes with three different movements. The one with one line is 6 movements to open, but the one with three lines has to be moved 18 times to open it. The basic movement is all the same, but you have to repeat the same movement several times to open these boxes
